Who do you run to in times of trouble?

Sometimes when people come to me for advice I try my best to listen to their situation and give them my honest opinion about what I think they should do or what I would do in their position. Being that I have friends from different cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs I try my best to be as open minded and respectful of where they may be operating from. But sometimes I tend to leave the conversation wanting to tell them the first thing I do when I have a problem whether big or small.

When I’m annoyed, when I’m pissed to high heaven, when I feel like no one really understands, when no one is listening (no I mean when they really aren’t), when I feel like I’m sad and nothing could lift my spirits, when I’m so hurt and I don’t want people to see me cry when I’m alone in my bed at night, when I’m disappointed, when I’m so confused and nothing seems to be going the way I thought it would….I pray…….

I pray to Almighty God and tell Him all my garbage and release all the weight I’ve been carrying around with me. It’s too darn hard having to worry about every single thing. When I’m stressed out I’m running all kinds or scenarios in my head trying to come up with a solution and then I come up empty. My head feels big and I feel like I’m out of control. I even have re-occurring dreams that usually demonstrate that I’m trying to take hold of a difficult situation and I JUST cant do it…I lose control. These are the feelings I’d get in the past and I’ve gotten much better as I gotten closer to God.

God and I… we’re like milk and cookies, the sun taking comfort in the sky, sand and the water, words on the pages of a book, a key to a lock! I’m going to stop there because I’m sure you get the point lol I don’t go anywhere without Him, I know he’s listening to me, we’ve had this love affair for quite some time and the bond we have is getting stronger and stronger as each day passes. Sometimes I get a little ahead of myself and think I could handle my issues on my own but then when the burden gets to heavy I drop that load of drama at his feet lol He knows just what to do with it. He has control over everything to do with me and the world around me. It makes me sleep better at night and I know things are being taken care of. I have faith….Faith in God is what gets me through the good times and the bad times.

So you see sometimes my first instinct is to tell someone to pray about their woes, their situation, or their sickness that seems to be too much to handle. I tell them what I do....I feel like when you pray God is already on the job even before you finish talking to him. It doesn’t even have to be something long and elaborate. You just have to believe that he’ll will come through for you and speak to him like you would your best friend. He wants people to run to him like a child who looks for comfort from a parent after falling down and getting hurt. So that’s what I do….But I realize that many people can’t fathom believing in someone that they can’t see. God doesn’t seem real to them or people are afraid of religion. Religion is really a topic people tend to stay away from.

So I wanted to ask everyone…

Do you find that talking about religion and your beliefs is taboo?

Why do you feel like it may be a topic that people don’t want to discuss?

Do you feel like there is power in prayer and that God will answer, or the idea of believing in God is ridiculous?

When you have a problem who do you turn to first? When you feel like you’re heart is heavy and you feel like no one would understand who can you possibly tell? Who do you turn to?

I think the subject of God or religion is taboo for some, not sure why though. That is not the case for me but certainly for some people. An onld school mate told me that religion is private and something she only discusses with her family. Many people have different perspectives I suppose. Yup I pray when I have issues and when I don't, just a part of my life.

Great post!

I ask God for his guidance every day. Sometimes I even feel like things are going my way and I still ask him for guidance.

Then I thank him for everything that has happened to me, both good and bad, because if I was never shown some of these things I would not know him on such a personal level. God is always there, and he will answer your prayers, as long as you ask him to watch over you, he will always be there for you.

Praying can a sensitive subject to so many who do not believe in its power.

In the end God knows us more than anyone else.

On a personal level, prayer is divine, but I'll also call up one of my parents or my oldest brother because he's extremely easy to talk to.

In "my opinion" people do not discuss religion if they don't have one, not sure of their beleifs or committing big time sin.

I trust in the Lord and I find comfort in him because I have yet to meet someone who can assure me that through good times and bad, I will not be judged and I will be loved unconditionally.

Thanks for the great post.

I don't have a choice, but to turn to God in tough times. Like Marcus said, I also lean on friends/family especially those who can uplift me. However, man will disappoint you, but He won't.

I don't feel like talking about religion is taboo. My relationship with God is a part of my everyday life, the two cannot be separated so if you talk to me, it'll come out eventually. I think most people don't realize how powerful prayer is, if they did, they would never stop praying!

1) you all definately dont want to hear my real beliefs about religion lol

i do believe that prayer does work though (i know that somebody was praying for me)

2) people dont want to discuss it because thats something between you and god

and many dont put their beliefs out there because they dont want to be pigeonholed and stigmatized for their beliefs

becaiuse once people know what you believe they treat you differently

3) PRAYER WORKS

in my short 27 years ive seen some AMAZING things as a result of prayer

which begs the question: why dont pray as often

4) i turn to myself first.

if icant solve it i go to my family.

if they cant help me i go to my blog

most of the time my blog buddies give me a good answer

I don't think it's taboo, but I can tell when talking God to some people will drive them away so I tend to give scripturally based advice to non Christians without saying the Bible says this and that. At the same time I pray for them and let them know that I'm praying for them. It's my way of making sure I don't hide my relationship with God, while also not making them feel as if I'm forcing one on them.

Who do (should) I turn to first? Psalms 61:2

Funny how a big issue around the inauguration was prayer. People who love God showed enough hatred to argue over who should lead a prayer to Him.

No doubt to that, God will always help us in our problems. He will help us handle and solve it and come out of a best solution.
He will never give trials that we can't get through. And these trials make us a better person.

When I have times of trouble and doubt, I go to GOD. I also journal and look back days later to see if I've grown, changed or am I still stuck in my will and not his.

It's funny when you say that You and GOD has had a love affair for quite sometime because as women, we don't share when it comes to the heart. HE is the only one that we all can love at one time without jealousy or envy and he can in turn love us ALL THE SAME. NO favorites and no conditions, just as we are. How awesome is that?

Thank you for visiting me last week when I really needed you. He sent you to me and I'm grateful.

Love, peace and blessings.
I"m glad that you've continued blogging. No pressure, just be yourself.

Hello, this is my first time visiting and I'm glad that I did.

I don't think that speaking of religion is taboo. It's been said also that some people may not feel comfortable talking about their beliefs, but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. It's not about what people think of you, it's about what you think of you. The world doesn't have a heaven or a hell to put you in. I know that the word tells me that if I am ashamed of God before men then Jesus will be ashamed of me before the Father. I will never judge anyone for their beliefs, we all must live our own individual lives.

I will speak about His love, grace and mercy until my time is up here or until the Glorious Appearing! I do agree with you about giving advise. Most people that come into my office know exactly where I stand and seek me for that very reason. I give advise that won't intimidate or confuse anyone and sometimes the truth hurts and at other times it heals.

I'm sorry this got long, I just love and adore the Lord and I will tell anyone that will listen!

I will return to your blog.
